Created in 2002 by overseas Vietnamese students at Harvard University, VietHope worked to rectify systemic academic disparities in Vietnam. The nonprofit’s mission—to equip low-income students through access to schooling—stems from recognition that monetary hardship remains the main barrier to educational persistence.

### Programs and Impact

1. University Scholarship Program (USP):

– Grants $300 to $400 yearly

– Beneficiaries are required to exhibit academic merit (lowest GPA of 3.0)

– Gradual funding framework encourages educational persistence

2. Scholastic Development Program (MDP):

– Provides 150 dollars yearly bursaries

– Contains career-specific training and career counseling

Results:

– Higher education graduation: 91% vs. 74% countrywide
